It arrived on Anita’s doorstep in a brown box. No postmark. No return.

Within it: a digital camera and instructions on hook-up.

Her TV flickered. Then suddenly Edward was there on screen, seated before her, waiting.

This was bad. Her heart sank with his opening words:

“This is goodbye, Anita.”

Goodbye??

“This recording may seem extreme…” His tan face melted from stone to soft resignation, revealing everything. “But I wanted to talk one last time before I disappeared.”

Whether this meant his ‘going underground’, or leaving the world entirely, she was about to loose the only man she truly trusted.
