The situation was bad. Edward and I had been hunting this were-bat from hell and tracked he and his creepy followers into a labyrinth of caves.

Then we’d gotten separated. I got lost. Then Edward’s Beretta rang out in the muffled distance.

Didn’t have much time to panic before a vibration against my hip scared the shit out of me.

My cell – thankfully on stealth-mode – said I had a TEXT message: “AAK”

I fumbled with it quiet-like in case any baddies had survived those silvershots, and replied:

“WHAT??!!”

“…Alive and Kicking.”

Relived, I smiled into the darkness. “Edward, you nerd.”
